Tim is a 17-year-old singing student at the Mozart boarding school in the Austrian Alps. One night he discovers an old secret portal that leads him into the world of Mozart's Magic Flute. There, as Prince Tamino, he meets Papageno, the bird catcher, with whom he must go on dangerous adventures every night to free Princess Pamina, who is being held
captive by Prince Sarastro.
During the day he continues to go to school and tries, among other things, to get the part of Tamino in the annual school performance of The Magic Flute. He also meets Sophie, who turns his head.

For me as a film composer, this film was both a gift and a challenge: Firstly, the orchestra rehearsals shown in the film were planned minutely and then shot in advance with the New Philharmonic Orchestra Frankfurt as the actors. Secondly, the film score itself required a wide range of different music styles, in order to be able to help tell the multi-faceted story to a large audience through the music as well.
This was my first collaboration with the wonderful director Dror Zahafi, who in Crescendo has managed to tell a gripping, highly political story with great sensitivity.

Before the movie was shot, I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful band, which is also featured in the movie. The collaboration with the great and unforgotten Hannelore Elsner was also wonderful.
A tender but also melancholy film, in which my task was to compose a very atmospheric score to support the power of the images. I used various different stylistic elements in the film music: jazz, Yiddish music, electronics and a lot of sound design.
My first collaboration with the great director Uwe Janson.

Guerrilla Cooks was a very funny project about two crazy cooks who have just completed their training and then go off on a trip to Asia to continue learning about their trade.
Together with Pascal Reinhard, a young pop-music producer, I created a very varied score in a short time, which accompanied the boys on their journey. It was important to us that the soundtrack appeal to young people, so we recorded countless guitar and drum tracks, making sure the result had the feel of a pop-music road movie.
The result is a multifaceted film score that leaves the documentary enough room to tell the story of the two chefs and creates very emotional moments.
A nice collaboration with the director Jonas Gernstl.

My first evening-filling movie score for the wonderful director Pia Strietmann, for whom this was her final project in graduating from the Munich film school.
The process of making the film music was long but also fascinating because it was often a balancing act not to artificially accentuate the emotions of the story but to allow them to appear unembellished. This made the emotions all the more intense, but it was also hard work: for instance I changed the composition accompanying the last scene no less than 17 times ... ;-). But in the end the effort was worth it, because the final result was a wonderfully touching film came out.

Wunderkinder: my first big feature film. I was really happy to be asked to compose and produce the music for this movie.
I developed the "Larissa" theme long before the first day of shooting. What was requested was a song of friendship that a 12-year-old girl dedicates to her friends. Of the 17 proposals for this song that I composed, director Marcus O. Rosenmüller and producer Alice Brauner chose a theme that I then produced in various variations. This then culminated in "Larissa's Song".
We recorded the complete soundtrack in two days with the Bratislava Radio Symphony Orchestra. It was released on CD, and the sheet music of "Larissa's Song" is available in my online shop for various different instrumental ensembles.

I was walking in the park when my phone rang: it was OscarTM winner Caroline Link. What a surprise it was when she asked me if I could compose some musical scenes for her new movie. What a question! Of course I immediately said yes. Since there was once again so little time available, I immediately locked myself in the studio with my lyricist Ralf Stutz and went to work on it.
Caroline wanted "Alice in Wonderland" as a musical. Fortunately not the complete play but only individual scenes. Nevertheless, we created a concept for more or less the whole thing, so that the required scenes would fit together and be well-rounded. We then recorded the music with the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt and the students of the Munich Musical Academy.
It was incredible fun :-)
Director: Pia Strietmann (2009)

My first collaboration with the young director Pia Strietmann. It wasn't an easy film to compose a soundtrack to. The film tells of a man's possible sexual abuse of his own daughter. Many questions arise, not all of which are answered. Here it was important not to make a judgement with the score, but to merely enhance the atmosphere of the movie. A tightrope act. A long working process together with the director, which resulted in a very moving film.
